D’Jemecia “Jem” Murdock is a first year doctoral student in Sociology at the University of Georgia. As a proud Jamaican national raised in the beautiful Bahamas, embracing diverse perspectives and fostering meaningful connections is important to her work, and her passion lies in addressing the complex challenges affecting her community and finding solutions that promote equity and sustainability.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs and Political Science, as well as a Master’s in International Policy, both from the University of Georgia. Her research interests are firmly positioned within the field of environmental political sociology, concerned with how climate change and other environmental challenges transform societal norms and power relations within the Caribbean and Latin America. Specifically, her research focuses on how environmental risk leads to patterns of fragmented human rights claims, contested cultural identities, and evolving state-society dynamics.

She is eager to contribute scholarship and interdisciplinary collaborations that inform insightful policy with a global impact.
