Alpha Kappa Delta Invitation

Greetings, Dear Sociology Minors and Majors!

As the Undergraduate Coordinator in Sociology, I write to extend an invitation (for those who are not already members) to consider joining Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD), the International Sociology Honor Society.

To join, a student must meet four requirements: (1) be an officially declared Sociology Minor or Major; (2) be at least a junior or a third year student; (3) have accumulated a GPA of 3.0 in sociology classes and 3.3 overall at UGA; and (4) have completed at least four courses in sociology (which can include research or independent study "courses").

If you meet the requirements, then I'd encourage you to join.  Why?  It's the sort of thing that can (and does) serve as a signal of capability, engagement, and enthusiasm.  It's a line on your resume or vita.  Plus, if you get the honor cords, and don't misplace them or decide to blow off graduation, you'll make those who attend graduation wonder what in the world you did to merit such awesome aqua-colored cords.

The application form is linked here as a PDF.  Please fill it out return it to Ms. Kathy Lou (113 Baldwin) by Monday, January 30, if you wish to join.  I suppose you could return it to her if you're not interested, but she'd probably find that annoying.

Best wishes and kind regards,

Dr. Coverdill
