William Finlay has been awarded the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship, UGA's highest teaching award.  He is the fifth Sociology faculty member since 1999 to receive this award.

Congratulations to Tiffani Everett, who has accepted a position at Arkansas Tech University as an assistant professor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences, and to Daniel Shank, who has accepted a postdoctoral fellowship in the Sociology and Social Work department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The Department of Sociology is very pleased to welcome its newest faculty member, Dr. Justine Tinkler, who will be joining the department in August 2012.  Justine, who has a Ph.D. In Sociology from Stanford University, is currently an assistant professor at Louisiana State University.

Ron Simons is first author of an article, "Social Environment, Genes, and Aggression," in the December 2011 issue of the American Sociological Review.  One of his co-authors is Sociology graduate student, Man Kit (Karlo) Lei.

Paul Roman has received a MERIT award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institutes of Health, to extend his research on adoption of innovations in private alcohol and drug treatment centers.   To read more please see the Feature Story on the Franklin College website.

Five faculty have received University and College teaching awards. Paul Roman was appointed to a Regents' Professorship, the University of Georgia's highest research award.  Jody Clay-Warner was named a Josiah Meigs Teaching Professor, the University of Georgia's highest teaching award.  Mark Cooney received a Franklin College Sandy Beaver Teaching Award.  William Finlay received the Lothar Tresp Outstanding Honors Professor Award and Dawn Robinson received the Faculty Division Outstanding Academic Advisor Award in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.

Jody Clay-Warner and Linda Renzulli have been selected as co-winners of the Pacific Sociological Association's 2010 Distinguished Contribution to Sociological Perspectives Award for their paper (co-authored with Jennifer McMahon), "Criminalizing Spousal Rape: The Diffusion of Legal Reforms."
