Dr. William Finlay, Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor of Sociology and Adjunct Professor of International Affairs (view Dr. Finlay's Meigs video), is co-director of the UGA Study-Abroad Program in Stellenbosch, South Africa. He has been at the University of Georgia since 1988 and received a Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University in 1983. Prior to coming to the University of Georgia, he taught at the University of Iowa. Dr. Finlay's specialty areas include the workplace, organizations, and economic sociology. He irecently finished a book, co-authored with Jim Coverdill and published by Cornell University Press, which examines how the role and activities of headhunters have changed due to social media and economic uncertainty and his current research project looks at how markets and networks shape the selling of South African wines in the U.S. market.
